This year the KATIG organization is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for a Waray-Waray writing competion. Waray is the fifth most spoken language in the Philippines, and yet, written publications in Waray are scarce. By hosting this competition we are hoping to encourage young people to take pride in their mother-tongue and to write their experiences, in their own language, for the world to read. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise P155,000 ($3,100 or £2,470) to publish a collection of short stories written by young people aged 13-19. Stories will be printed in Waray AND English so that everyone can enjoy. Print editions of the collection will be distributed to schools throughout Waray speaking areas of Leyte and Samar, and an ebook will be published online for everyone to read. This project is sure to make a lasting impact on the local communities and children of the Eastern Visayas. Be a part of something great today and donate to help keep linguistic diversity alive.
