“War is a Racket: No Wars for Profit” Campaign Fundraiser

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle in Canada is launching a fundraising campaign to support our campaign “War is a Racket: No Wars for Profit”. The goals of the campaign include advocacy to 1) Get Canada out of NATO, 2) To end Canada’s technical support to reactionary regimes, and 3) To end the imperialist arms trades.

The funds will support activists involved in the campaign and events we are organizing to advance the campaign’s goals.

Firstly, ILPS and other anti-war groups in Ottawa will organize a demonstration at CANSEC this year on May 31. CANSEC arms fair is Canada’s largest and most important defense industry exhibition held annually in Ottawa. It attracts over 50 international delegations, including human rights violators such as the Philippines and Israel, over 300 exhibitors, including the largest trans-national weapons manufacturers, and over 10000 attendees. According to CANSEC, the majority of attendees are “top-level executives” with “purchasing power”.

In 2022, the demonstration against CANSEC brought together over 150 activists to block all entrances to the EY Centre, and to delay the opening of the convention. With your support, we can bring more interested activists to Ottawa to shut down the war machine at CANSEC.

Secondly, the funds may be used to organize events to bring together activists, in order to share our experiences in the anti-war and anti-imperialist movement and to build solidarity together.
