The team of the Center For American Studies consists of four Ukrainians.

One of them – Liliia Kurii – is still in Ukraine. Lilia is hiding with her children in Khmelnytskyi (which is supposedly a bit safer since its further to the West, but Russians were still aiming at it).

Anatolii and his entire family escaped from the occupied area on the Dniepr river. Anatolii was the one witnessing the most gruesome views of burning vehicles and bodily members lying around in his neighborhood. Anatolii's escape lasted 4 days. His father and grandfather remained in Ukraine to defend their country.

Alex Statkevych and Rita Haluschenko are currently in Poland; Alex's parents luckily ran away from Kyiv under siege, and his sister is in the bombarded Lviv. Family of Rita is in Zaporoze which was the next target of the invasion from the South-East of Ukraine.

We want to help our Ukrainian team members and their familes now, and also after the war (both in terms of accomodation, residence, and legal assistance). We decided to create a fund, which will be used to split across all four of our Ukrainian colleagues and their families evenly. We would like to provide you with the opportunity of donating to that fund. If our Ukrainian teammates would like their share in the fund to be donated for a cause different than help to their families and closed ones, they will be able to do so. We won't verify how they use their donation. We trust them.

The war has been also a huge blow at the Center For American Studies Ukraine – it has fallen in a matter of a night. We are trying to keep things operational so that our fellow Ukrainian teammates who lost their jobs have something to get back to once the war ends.

Hopefully that happens soon. Ukraine is strong. Ukraine should prevail.

Thank you!
