It's been 4 months since I last walked.
My motorcycle accident happened as I was on my way back from work, I hit roadworks and was thrown off of my motorcycle. I lay on the side of the road for an hour before being rushed to the ER. 4 Surgeries, multiple CT scans, X-rays, Sonographs and a MRI. Injections, blood tests, morphine, pain medication, muscle relaxers. Fractured ribs and collarbone. Bruised lung, two broken teeth, right arm, thumb and pinkie broken with multiple fractures in the wrist. My spine was broken in 5 places, with the spinal cord being injured around my waist; leaving me paralyzed.
In these last 4 moths I've been in rehab, learning to rely on my left arm for everything. learning to sit upright, roll over, get dressed and transfer. My life has always been adventurous, from sand-boarding, to hiking and riding my motorcycle. Never did i expect to celebrate my 22nd Birthday in a Hospital bed. I am working hard on regaining my independence as i intend to live my life to the fullest.
The funds raised here will be going to one project, which is a standing frame. This device won't have an effect on my mobility, but it will allow me to stand upright and bear my own weight. While there are many medical benefits to standing, my main aim is for the psychological benefits of being upright and feeling tall and meeting someone at eye level.
I thank you for taking the time to read my story and I appreciate all the support.
My story is far from over and I have not given up the fight and hopefully someday I'll walk it off.
