“Walk in my shoes” is a Roma NGO created by 3 role models of Roma, Egyptian and non Roma role models. Or mission is to use Roma Role models help Roma children of first and second grade, to improve their performance at school by implementing Cross Peer Tutoring as a learning method.
18 young Roma and non Roma are currently mentoring 18 Roma and Egyptian Children, with low performance, that come from family with high poverty.
We want to help 5 children of Roma community, who currently are not able to attend Kindergarden, and next September are due to enroll at the first grade. Not being part of a pre-school education raises the chances that these children will not be equally treated in class by teachers and pupils, but will be discriminated due to their low performance.
- 5 Role models will take over 5 Roma children and teach them through a program using cross peer tutoring, from 1 March 2019-1 September 2019.
- 5 Roma children come from family with high poverty, not able to support pre-schooling for children, and not being accepted in kindergarten due to their Roma ethnicity.
- 1 child needs 500 dollars for 5 months, (100 per month) to pay their school materials, travel fees for mentors, and other necessary books.
- 5 children need 2500 dollars for a period of 5 months to be helped in this project. We have very qualified, and trained mentors, that are Roma role models from high schools, that will take over the mentoring and tutoring process, to help Roma Children.
Our aim is to help Roma children in the field of education because this is the secret of success for us Roma. Being a Roma Role model, succeeding with everything in my life, I understand how education changed my life, this is why I want all my Roma people to be educated, because a better life will lead their future.
