The Walk 4 Autism 2013

The Walk 4 Autism is now on its 4th year...And were desperately hoping to raise 5,000 to enable us to register as a official recognised charity i started this walk after my son ashton who is now 6 was diagnosed with high functioning autism and severe learning difficulties in 2008 at 2 years old, i had so much to take in and ashton like many others had so many obsticles to over come with public perception of autism been a major obsticle...so i decided to do this walk to raise some much much needed autism awareness not just for my son but the many others like ashton struggling with this complex yet silent disability, that isnt always visable to the naked eye.. I want what every parent wants for my son to be accepted!!! And by raising autism awareness i hope to achieve this...over the years of doing the walk iv met some trully remarkable people who join becouse they also want and understand the lack of knowledge of autism amongst the general public needs to improve to help the people we love struggling with autism,1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism everday in the uk,day to day tasks we take for granted are so difficult for people with autism, many ppls perception of autism is that of rain man and this is so so far from the truth..Ashton is nearly 7 I've never heard him speak life with Autism is difficult it is a life long disability and we dont know whats round the corner but autism is rewarding and ppl with autism are loving amazing people who just see things differently to others..and i like all parents of children with autism just want my child to be has happy as can be and by raising awareness and acceptance i do believe life will be easier for the many people who struggle with autism!!!to be better understood in today's society
The walk will be road side this year ( previousley on the canal) so it will not be safe for young children sorry!! This way we have a more effective impact on spreading awareness ...we will meet saturday 29th june 10.30 the outside central libary in halifax ( do a lap of town with our donation buckets lol)to the train station and catch the train to Hebden bridge we will then walk road side from Hebden through mythmroyd, luddeden foot sowerby bridge kingcross down to Halifax and finish in the Halifax catholic club across from courier office for a well earned drink and il lay on a buffet family members and children are very welcome to meet us there......
It is fancy dress if you dare but it is optional lol
Over the past 3 year weve raised £10,000 for woodbank, highbury & ravenscliffe special needs schools...
This year im hoping we can help smaller local organisations these are 1- The parent & carers council- this is a organisation whom provide a free service to disabled children and their families, some of their services include free training on various aspects around various disabilitys, days out, courses, lending of appartus and supportive aids, advice, and free councelling, to name a few. They was broken into recently and all the computers and other items stolen, they rely greatly on donations to help so many families of the disabled so will greatly benefit..2- linden brook care home - linden brook is a respite care home to help children up to the age of 18 have a safe place to go on respite so there families can have a small over night break, the kids enjoy days out, various activities and its a place that they can go be them selfs and be understood while meeting new friends who are just like them and there familys feel at ease knowing they are safe and looked after..they also rely on donations to run and would hugely benefit...
