The Wagtail Festival is one of KZN’s biggest conservation festivals, with close on 2000 people passing through the gates in 2017, with people traveling to the festival from throughout the KZN province.

The Inaugural Wagtail Conservation Festival took place in 2017, and it was hailed as a major success where key conservation issues were highlighted. A group of passionate people came together in creating awareness and educating the community on environmental issues in the Amanzimtoti and Illovo area.

On the 9-10 November 2018 nature enthusiasts will come together at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre, Amanzimtoti, Kwa-Zulu Natal, for the Wagtail Conservation Festival, for a weekend where conservation is the focus.

In 2018 we aim to continue with the work we started in 2017, where we had eco-talks on various topics ranging from birds, snakes, insects and flora. The aim with the Wagtail Conservation Festival is to promote and create awareness of nature and conservation in the Amanzimtoti area, as well as raise awareness around the work that conservation organisations are doing in our province and nation.

The Sapphire Coast area is a eco-tourism treasure chest, and we want to ensure that visitors, tourists and residents alike come to spend some time exploring the wonderful hidden gem, teeming with nature and birdlife right on our doorstep. We aim to put the Amanzimtoti area on the map when it comes to areas that people would visit to experience nature and birdlife.

The Festival is run by a group of committed volunteers with very little outside funding coming in, last year much for the funding for the event came out of the pockets of the committee. The funding goes beyond the festival, as all funds that are raised would be used to both improve as well as maintain the nature trails in our community.

We we would love to be able to leave a legacy that goes beyond our generation and ensure that in years to come that future generations also get to enjoy nature as it was created.

We would love to invite you to partner with any amount that you feel that you can afford. As I said any funds that are raised that are over an above that which are needed for the day will be used for the trails that have been laid out in the area.
