Hiya! I will be traveling to Livingstone, Zambia for two weeks in December 2015 to work with children through International Volunteering HQ. They have set me up with a local organization called Dream Livingstone Zambia.
Zambia is an extremely poor country, with 64% of the population living below the poverty line. Because of the poverty that most families face, 65% of women who are the heads of their households have decided to decrease the number of meals per day in an effort to save money. Consequentially, children are hungry and suffering. Lack of nourishment affects the development and health of children.
I absolutely ADORE children! I hope that my trip to visit and work with them can help, even if it may be only a little. I will help at my placement with cleaning, playing, teaching, or whatever else they may require to help it run smoothly. I also plan on bringing them supplies, such as coloring books, pencils, stickers, etc. Since, I will be visiting during the holiday season, I hope my presence can lift their spirits!
For myself, I envision this trip to provide insight into what it is like to join another culture in an effort to help the people. I have plans to volunteer abroad in long-term placements in my future. This trip will be my first time volunteering outside of the United States!
I also love to travel. With this opportunity, I can learn about a new country and its culture. I hope to meet many new people from Zambia, as well as other volunteers from around the world!
The $800 that I am trying to raise will pay for my fees with IVHQ, Dream Livingstone Zambia, and my visa!
Thank you so much for supporting my trip!
