What does the project involve?

We will be going to Accra, Ghana in August 2013 with the charity Akosia.

Akosia is a charity which runs creativity-focussed projects in Mexico, Mongolia and Ghana, for street and working children.

The project we will be working on involves working with children in Accra, Ghana who attend The Street Academy.  It's a 4-week film-making project, which involves the children learning all the diverse skills involved in making a film - including the opportunity to write, produce, direct and act .  The aim is to give the children an opportunity to work on a creative project that will give them the chance to learn new, tangible and useful skills, as well as to develop their self-expression and self-confidence through creativity.

Who are we?

We are two friends living in Edinburgh, Scotland. Kasia is an artist and works as an Illustrator for children's books, and Kate works as a Speech & Language Therapist.  We are really excited to have the opportunity to travel to Africa to work on this amazing project!

Why are we fundraising?

Akosia is a small charity, so whilst they are able to host the project and to provide accommodation for volunteers once we get to Ghana, they ask us to help by independently raising funds to cover our travel and medical costs. This includes flights, Visas and vaccinations.

Fundraising activities

Amongst other activites, Kate will be running the Edinburgh Half-Marathon on May 26th, as well as contributing 100% of sales from her Etsy shop to the cause.  Kasia will also be holding online auctions selling prints of her original artwork and illustrations.
