This year is my golden birthday! On September 11th, I will be turning 11 years old! My mother told me I could go anywhere in the world on my golden birthday (thanks to a third grade conversation she had with Timmy Mitchell who told her that was his family's tradition on golden birthdays)! This trip has been a dream in the making for almost 40 years!
For months, we researched places to go around the world. One day we watched a video on Bali. I saw waterfalls, oceans, and monkeys and I immediately fell in love with this beautiful country! My mom was talking about doing volunteer work and I decided that this trip would be a good opportunity to help! We read that children in Bali who learn how to speak English have much better opportunities. Since I want to be a teacher when I grow up, and I know how to speak English, I decided that helping children learn English would be a great way to help! We have registered with International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ), a well known, long time program that offers opportunities for several types of volunteer trips. For more information about the work we will be doing, check out their website at: https://www.volunteerhq.org/volunteer-in-bali/
What I also learned is that it is not cheap to travel to Bali! We have to pay for airfare, lodging, registration and program fees, travel insurance, background checks, and more! In an effort to help pay for these expenses, I am reaching out to you to ask if you would help sponsor me with a donation or forgo any birthday gifts and donate to help me with volunteering instead?
During our trip which is scheduled for November 15-29, I will be sending updates and pictures (if I am allowed) so everyone can meet the students I am working with and learn a little bit about what life is like in Ubud, Bali.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or just want to know more! I am so excited to share this journey with you!
