My passion for women’s rights in the context of International Development is my main motivation for volunteering on a Women's Education project with IVHQ as I believe that gender equality is fundamental to a country’s social and economic development. Inequality in access to education between genders is one of the greatest impediments to achieving gender equality- not having access to education leaves women and girls vulnerable to poverty and exploitation, and significantly decreases their life opportunities. I am extremely grateful to have had access to a high-quality education, and I recognise that this access was a result of women fighting for it; it is therefore of critical importance to me that I use my privilege to continue this fight for access for all women. Although IVHQ is one of the most affordable options when it comes to volunteering, the costs are still substantial; anyone who knows me is aware that I have dedicated a lot of time to researching and tackling gender inequality in India from the UK, and that it is my dream to travel to India to continue this work. I would be very grateful for any contributions to help me achieve this dream.
