Beginning June of this year I will be participating in a volunteer project in Vietnam where I will be given the opportunity to work with children diagnosed with autism. This volunteer opportunity was offered to me by Projects Abroad, a nonprofit organzation that connects willing participants to provide their services internationally. I have chosen to volunteer as a psychologist for one month in Vietnam because I feel that my skills and training would benefit the children living with autism. In a country where autism isn't fully understood, these children go through daily challenges when attempting to fit into society. My goal in this project is to help these children, along with their friends and family, to accept, understand and cope with this condition.
I choose to volunteer for Projects Abroad because I think that the opportunity in Vietnam is a worthy cause. I feel that the community should take into consideration the condition of these children. With the skills I have acquired through my schooling in psychology, I feel that my contributions as a pscyhologist in Vietnam will achieve this goal. With that in mind, this would be my first abroad experience and I am excited to experience different worlds, cultures and communities. I am looking forward to see the world in another perspective.
As this experience is unpaid, I will incur costs for such things as flights, the Projects Abroad program fee and vaccinations. I thank you for any amount contributed. Your donation, no matter the amount, will help bring me closer to my goal.
