My name is Molly Oakley and I am a Third Year Primary Education student at The University of Winchester. In June 2016 I shall be volunteering, with Younite Outreach Project, in Nakuru, Kenya. We shall be working with children and teachers based in a school for orphans and destitute children. Melon Mission and Silver Bells are the school projects I will be supporting. These schools are solely funded on donations and volunteers like myself, making a direct difference to the children's lives.
I’m taking part in this voluntary project to offer support and education, both to the teachers and children at Melon Mission and Silver Bells. By sharing my skills and helping them directly I hope that we can make a sustainable impact to the educational experience of the 520 children and 20 teachers based at the project.
I will be carrying out the project in June 2016 in which it will take 2 weeks to complete. As part of the trip pledge some of the money goes into the development of the current buildings at the projects, which will be assisted by local builders. Last year the project improved toilet facilities, implemented a water storage system and improved security around the projects by creating gates and fences. On my arrival back to the UK I will be sharing photos of my journey working with the project.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your help in this life changing project. As part of the project half of the money goes into the development of the current buildings at the schools. The cost of getting to Africa is also an obstacle in the way of many people being able to offer direct help, therefore the other half of the money will be spent on the cost of travelling to the schools.
