'GET ME TO GHANA!'
On the 24th August 2014 I will be travelling alone to Ghana, West Africa, to work voluntarily for a company called Agape. I will be living and working there for two weeks.
What I'm doing:
During this time I will work in the local village primary school as a teacher, and assistant in subjects such as English language, Maths, Science, P.E, History, Cultural studies and much more.
I will be living at the home of a local Ghanaian with 3 other volunteers on the same project as me. They will feed us breakfast and dinner, traditional local meals, and lunch will be a choice of what is fresh at the market that day. There is no hot running water, so my showers will be interesting, however there should be a flushing toilet!
To help encourge and increase donations, I will also be completing a sponsored cycle at the end of July from Colchester Castle to Hedingham Castle and back which is approximately 43 miles.
The volunteering itself costs £500, the flights another £560 and then I must go equipt with teaching materials, gifts, money to donate, money for any experiences and also safety resources including a mosquito net etc. I also have to buy insurance, and a working visa which together has cost £80.
Being a student, I have only currently been able to afford to pay for my flights as yet. Therefore my aim is to raise a massive £1300 to put toward the trip, any extras will be donated to the community when I am there.
What I need from you:
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE donate as much or as little as you can to this great cause. Not only will it be an amazing experience for myself, but I hope that with your donations I can make as much of an impact as possible whilst out there and really make my trip worth it for the community.
I want to make people more aware of the great work charities such as Agape are doing, although they are not generally recognised to be charities, they are registered and do such good- and also encourage others to take part in volunteering, whether it be at home or abroad!
A HUGE THANK YOU to anyone who has already donated, or is going to donate. Your money will be put to great use, and it is much appreciated!
