Volunteering in Bali – Medical and Healthcare Project

Hello family and friends! As many of you know my name is Jenna and I am a sophomore in the nursing school at Boston College. I am excited to announce that, along with my very good friend Erin Convery, I have been selected by an organization called PMGY to volunteer in Bali, Indonesia this summer. I am extremely grateful and blessed for the opportunity to implement my nursing knowledge and skills as well as learn from a healthcare system different from our own.

Through PMGY, I will be joining a medical service project working at Rumah Sakit Umum Tabanan, a local government hospital in the heart of Bali. The Balinese people are deeply rooted in their customs and religious beliefs; especially regarding healthcare. Since 2016, the healthcare system has been developing greatly for those that health services may not have been accessible to. This system continues to advance around the culture and beliefs of the Balinese people. Joining on this medical project promotes an exposure to traditional beliefs of healing along with the evolving care of Western medicine within this region.

My aim is to raise $1500 before this trip. This amount would cover accommodation, meals, and travel insurance, as well as support for Rumah Sakit Umum Tabanan.

With this experience, I hope to establish understanding of a world much different than my own and help those in which help is needed. Thank you all for support, everything and anything is greatly appreciated :)
