Hello people of the internet!
My name is Dakota Brown, I'm a nineteen year old freshman, and I attend Kent state University at Tuscarawas in New Philadelphia, Ohio, and I want to make a difference!
This summer I wash to help the children and elderly people of the Sevalaya home in Chennai, India! In the summer of 2014, I will be traveling with a group called Resilient Hearts across the globe to do some hands on work with the people who reside there. Although 175 childeren and 75 elderly live there year round, they barely have any paid staff to care for them, and they rely heavily on volunteer groups coming in to help give them personal attention. Any one out there with children know that a child needs so much one-on-one attention in order to grow. Donating to fund our trip will be like giving a moment of your time to a child who doesn't usually get that attention.
For me to join the group this summer, I'll need money for room and board plus meals everyday for 2 weeks. THe cost for that is about $1,200, which isn't too bad. The REAL trouble is raising money for the plane ticket to get from the continental U.S, to India and back; this can cost up to $2,000 per ticket! It seems like a lot, but in the grand scheme of things helping a child's life for the better is well worth the cost!
It's crucial for me to recieve some help funding this trip as I am just a poor college kid, struggling to get by, but I still crave the chance to make a difference in this world. I know that I can rely on the good people out there to help make this happen for those we are trying to help. If you, yourself don't have time to volunteer, right now you could still make a difference!
Anything you can do to help would be more than appreciated. From $1 to $1,000, anything helps! If you do not have the means to support my venture, but you still believe in our cause, please share this fundraiser with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media that you have; word of mouth can be the best help a person receives!
If I do not raise enough money to join the group this year, the funds I will keep raising funds, and hopefully I will be able to head to Sevalaya in the summer of 2015!
Thank you so muchfor your time!
