My GCSEs are nearly here, and I hope to get the grades to follow on my education in September at Halesowen College where I will study A-Levels in Environmental Studies, Geography, and Biology.

Over Lockdown I got involved in reporting on animal tracking and identification as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award. As well as reporting on animal activity, I was able to contact and speak with the scientists that run the projects. It was from here that I found out about volunteering in Africa. The opportunity to get out there and see how people are saving, supporting, and observing the native wildlife is something I never thought I would be able to do, but here it is, and here I go!

In July this year I will be going to Namibia for 4 weeks to volunteer at the N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary and reserve. The aim is to provide a safe haven for injured, orphaned and conflict animals and to release as many animals as possible back into the wild. I will be assisting with vital research and monitoring the animals whilst I’m there as well as preparing the food and feeding the animals, cleaning and maintaining all of the enclosures, creating and providing enrichment, administering medication and providing general care.

I will have the rare and exciting opportunity to work closely with and actively participate in the conservation of African wildlife. This unique programme will allow me to get up close to a vast array of animals within the sanctuary and to also participate in vital research in the surrounding reserve and villages that will contribute to sustainable measures being formed.

I would be extremely grateful for any donations towards helping me be part of this amazing project. Your contributions would go towards flights, supplies and equipment for the animal reserve and its local support network.

Because I am not 18, I will have to go with a parent! (Boo!). Mum will be joining me, and we will both be there for the full 4 weeks. Donations are only for my costs. Mum and Dad are paying for Mum’s costs.

If we have good internet and can get a Namibian SIM we should be able to keep everybody up to date with our daily activities.

I am trying to raise £3000 towards my costs. I know it’s a huge amount of money, but I thought I should set a goal. Any amount you can donate will be a great help. Thank you in advance!
