My name is Fevan joseph and I am raising money to take part in a volunteering programme in Morocco, helping orphanage children who have been abandoned by their parents and to fulfil that I need to raise £500 to cover the programme and the registration fee to fund the programme.
I am working with Plan my gap year (PMGY) who collaborate with an orphanage centre in Rabat. Some of the people at the orphanage have physical and special needs and ages can range up from babies to teenagers. These include Down Syndrome, Autism, and very high functioning disabled children. The aim here is to spend time looking after the children as well as providing early education to them and focusing on organising fun activities such as art, games and sport.
In Morocco, recent statistics bring the number of unwed mothers to 250,000 and more than 650,000 babies born out of marriage. Women who have sex out of marriage and fall pregnant, are often rejected by their family and stigmatised by society as its forbidden in the religion of Islam. Inevitably, without sex education or easy access to contraception unwanted illegitimate babies are born. Also combined with the fact the government-sponsored education doesn’t start until the age of 7, these issues have created a real challenge for families to provide their children with adequate emotional, educational and physical stimulation.
If you could support my funding page by donating and then sharing it with your network, I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer them.
