Campaign Story
Hello!
Thanks very much for taking the time to visit my Fundraising page for my participation as a Volunteer in the 2023 Volunteer Zambia Project.
Please take a read below to get to know more about this amazing charity.
About the Project:
Founded in 2008 the Volunteer Zambia Project aims to establish sustainable programmes that widen the impact of sport, but also provide pathways for young Zambians to enrich their lives through participation, leadership, and education.
The Volunteer Zambia project is a registered recognised charity of the Wallace Group, which directly supports the work of Sport in Action and the Volunteer Zambia project.
Each year across the Wallace Group seven leading sports Universities: Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews , Durham , Northumbria, Cardiff and Loughborough provide student Volunteers to be Student Sport Development Officers.
What I will be doing:
On the 3rd of June I will be flying to Zambia for 8 weeks to live and volunteer in the capital of Lusaka alongside fellow students and support staff from 7 UK Universities.
I will be a Volunteer Media Marketing and Communications Student Development Officer responsible for managing the promotion and publicity of the project.
Further liaising with Project Managers to gather media content (photos/videos) to capture relevant VZ activity and events; including videoing, photographing, editing and producing promotional materials (videos, adverts/artwork, interviews) to publicise the work of the project.
Working alongside fellow Volunteers planning and preparing the delivery of sport and helping upskill young Zambians by sharing my knowledge and experience.
How the Project will help me:
The Project will help me gain further experience in the ever changing world of sports development, giving me the opportunity to enhance my skills in challenging environments. No day will ever be the same in my role so l will learn vital skills on time management, resillence and knowing how to utilise available resources effectively.
Promoting and publisicing sport has always been one of my main passions since a teenager and I have always consistently been a sporting role model within my school becoming my school's Sportsmen of the Year in 2017.
In my time as a student I have spent many hours volunteering as a Sports Media Team member, club committee member and Media Officer within Edinburgh University Sports Union. Looking at University courses, sports was the only option for me and I feel this experience in Zambia supplementated by Sport Management degree will give me a great degree of confidence and skill to begin a career in the Sports Industry.
How you can help:
Please donate whatever you can to help me transfer my skills and experiences to mentor young Zambian volunteers this summer. The greater the support this amazing charity recieves, will mean more volunteers can continue to facilitate new sporting provision, building projects, educational resources and food campaigns. All of which will contribute to a positive sustainable impact for Zambian communities.
Spread the word about the Volunteer Zambia cause and stay up to date with the charities social media (of which I will be running while there).
