Volunteer Uganda – Making a difference!

Hi! My name is Nyokias Stoes and I will be volunteering this summer with Volunteer Uganda. Volunteer Uganda is a group of organisations dedicated to allieviating poverty by raising the standard of education in Bwindi, southwest Uganda. In Bwindi, 90% of the population lives on less than a dollar a day. Education is the single best route out of poverty but, with more than half the population aged under fifteen and a shortage of qualified teachers, schools struggle to give a great education to class sizes of up to 70 children.

I will be teaching english, maths and science in primary schools in Bwindi for 6 weeks and will also be involved in Volunteer Uganda's HIV outreach programme. Through raising the standard of education, infrastructure development, health promotion and job creation, your support will help us to tackle the huge problem of poverty at it's source.
