MY ROLE IN MOROCCO
Sports Development
Sport and physical activity is becoming increasingly popular within Moroccan culture, as locals have begun to recognize the value it has in personal and physical development. In addition to fostering teamwork and building social skills, the involvement in physical activity helps to alleviate delinquency among young Moroccans in developing communities.
On the Sports Development project, I will be contributing to the growth of sport in Morocco through education and coaching of sports, such as rugby, basketball, volleyball, handball, soccer and athletics. I'll also be encouraged to introduce new sports and games to the centers I am placed at.
Here is the breakdown of the different costs:
- Flights - approx $1,300
- Program Fee (pays for my room and board) - $300
- Language Lessons (optional, but will help me add more value to the local community) - $265
- Travel Insurance - $151
- Meals - $170
- Transportation - $100
- Background checks - $25
- Medical and Toiletry supplies - $150
- Wifi and Local Phone Sim cards - $60
- Water bottles (to last for two weeks) - $15
This comes out to roughly $2,500. I will be staying with a host family in Morocco. This is how alot of families make a living for themselves, by hosting volunteers internationally. So this is why there is a program fee, I will also be bringing them some gifts of appreciation while I am out there.
I hope to bring back many stories, experiences, and knowledge to the United States when I am done there.
Thank you all in advance for your help!
