Volunteer Trip to Kenya

Intro:

My name is Kristopher Embry and I am planning on taking a leave of absence for about four weeks from my job in January of 2013.  The details of my planned volunteering trip will become more concrete as time goes by.  As of November 30th, 2012, I am planning on leaving my home in Pittsburgh the first week of January and returning the fourth week of January.  This is not intended to be a vacation.  I intend on volunteering in Kenya to help the organization that I decide to volunteer for in any way that I can.  I will be teaching children to learn English, tutoring children and teaching them good sanitation habits, etc.  My post here will update once I confirm which program I will be volunteering for.

Goals:

The goal of this volunteer trip is to simply give back to less fortunate people and do some good.  I am a healthy, physically fit, thirty three year old that has the freedom in my profession to take time off in the month of January, so I figure I should use that to give back.  Another reason for this volunteering trip is to help my development as a person and get a firsthand insight into how fortunate I am, learn the value/richness of children and bring that back to my wife and my marriage. 

My Background:

I have extensive travel experience from my job and education, so I know what I am getting into, though I have not been in a rural part of a third world country before.  I have absolutely no criminal record/past and I have clearance to work with children.  I am physcially fit and worked construction growing up, so I will be able to contribute to manual labor and handyman duties as needed.  I will absolutely not use this fundraising money for personal profit nor vacation.  Please feel free to contact me if you would like to receive references or speak with me about my intentions.
