I am very excited to have been accepted into the Israel Teaching Fellows program (www.israelteachingfellows.org). I am one of 170 from around the world and the first ever from South Africa.
The program is for 10 months, starting 28 August 2014. Last year I went to Israel for the first time for 10 days and fell in love with the country. Since then I have been inspired to return and give back in some way. This program will allow me to do what I love, which is teaching, in a place that I found so fascinating.
I will be teaching in the predominantly low income areas as well as becoming involved in the community through other volunteer programs.
My contribution towards the program is $1000, which goes towards the airfair and accomodation. I have been advised that I will need an additional $300-$400 per month to cover living expenses. Coming from South Africa, where our exchange rate is very unfavourable - at the moment it is R11 to $1 - I am having great difficulty accumulating enough funds to cover my expenses in Israel. I am currently a teacher and while doing my best to save towards this, I will not be able to achieve this amount without your help.
I would be so grateful for any contribution!
