Volunteer and Learn at UCLA!

Hello! My name is Erin Schultz. I am a junior in high school living in southern Minnesota. Since I am a junior, I am going to be applying to colleges this upcoming fall, which is quite intimidating! UCLA has been my dream school for years, and I have decided that it is time for me to experience the campus in person. I was researching UCLA the other day when I came across a pre-college program offered there. It is called Summer Discovery. During this program, I would be able to live in a UCLA dorm for 3 weeks. I would also be taking classes and participating in a volunteering program to help the community of LA.  The Summer Discovery program includes: ~3 weeks stay in a UCLA dorm ~3 meals a day for weekdays, 2 for weekends ~Wide assortment of classes/enrichment programs to take part in ~Excursions around the LA area, including baseball games, Disneyland, movies, ect. I will also need to pay for my airfare to California and other costs necessary to attend this program. As you can probably guess, this program is quite costly. This program will have to be paid for entirely by me because my family does not have a lot of extra money lying around because of the economy. I also don't want to put any more financial burden on my parents, since they have already done so much for me. Without the help of donations, I might not be able to attend this wonderful program until next summer, after I have applied to colleges. I am hoping that through this experience I will gain valuable leaderships skills. I also believe that this program will make the adjustment to college a lot easier. I have heard that these kinds of programs also look good on college applications, so maybe this program will slightly increase my chance of getting into UCLA in the future, which would be a dream come true! I am not the kind of person who enjoys having to ask for help, but sometimes help is exactly what you need! Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and can help make my dream a reality!
