The African Leadership University came to life in 2015, with the mission to create 3 milllion African leaders, set with the values and skills needed to be game changers in their respective communities, and indeed the global world.
One of the spaces in which some students have decided to master skills, is in the arena of argumentative debate and public speaking. A handful of students started the ALU Debate Society in 2016, and it has since grown to one of the most stable and persistent student-led associations in the whole university under student leadership and support.
This society has been student-led from the onset, including the organization of open community debates; drafting of its constitution; organising its biweekly meetings; and communication between members, the university at large and external relations.
We currently have 21 members, 8 of which have been selected to proudly represent this game-changing university in the Pan African University Debate Championships, and introduce ALU to the world of debate - starting with our own beloved continent.
We cannot wait to offset this journey - we believe that with motivation and education, we can realise our dream to take the ALU Debate Society even further - to the World University Debate Championships, and to build a debating culture in several African countries such as Rwanda and Mauritius.
In doing this, we would be absolutely grateful for your support along the way!
So far we have been able to fundraise 75% of the funds needed to make this a reality - 6 out of 8 flight tickets have been secured. Please help us raise funds for our last two members, who also happen to be two of our best speakers - they have put to practise what we have learned about servant leadership so far, by ensuring that other speakers’ tickets would be secured before theirs. Without your help, however, they will likely not make it to the Championships in December. We would be overjoyed to see them make it there after all.
Any donation, small or big, is welcome. We wish to thank you in advance for your warm gesture - it is a kindness that will be put to good use .
Thank you for supporting our cause and helping us #RaiseOurVoice!
