Vivian Delos Reyes Bernardo is a loving daughter, sister, and a caring aunt.

She was once an OFW working at Saipan before deciding to settle back in the Philippines, last August 2019. She decided to do transport services for a telco company as her primary source of living. It has been moving smoothly, until the pandemic occurred. The swift change that it brought to the economy, affected everything from top to bottom. There are lesser needs for transport since almost everyone shifted into work from home.

Unfortunately, last January 27 at 5 o'clock in the morning, she was rushed to the ER of St. Luke's at Quezon City with the Chief Complaint of Difficulty Breathing. After certain laboratory tests, X-ray, ECG, and various other tests performed the initial assessment was the ff:

1.) Heart failure, congestive systolic; unspecified

2.) Pneumonia; unspecified organism

3.) Acute kidney injury; cardiorenal syndrome

The tests performed above were all done by lunchtime and her medical bill was already at 82,000. The doctors advised Vivian to stay for (3) more days and prepare a budget of 200,000 to ₱300,000 for all the procedures that needs to be done. But due to the lack of financial capability because of her recent payment for her dues, forced her to ask for discharge, even thou it was against medical advice. She tried to seek help from Public Hospitals but all of them rejected her due to the extent of her situation and the incapacity of the hospital to treat such. And was forced to just stay in her home at Rizal for the time being.

On January 30, when her family from Malabon was eventually notified of the situation, she was immediately picked up from her home and temporarily resided in her sister's home in Valenzuela. She was carefully observed and taken care of by her family while her Health Card and Philhealth are being fixed, as it may at least be helpful for her expected medical expense.

On February 01, she complained of severe difficulty of breathing and asked to be rushed to the hospital. From the (4) Hospitals that she was brought into, the last one (Valenzuela CitiCare Medical Center) was the only hospital that accepted her. She was immediately endorsed to be admitted in the Intensive Care Unit because of the severity of her Edema on her legs, and how hard it takes her to breathe. Being the only hospital to accept her, even thou it's a private hospital, gave the family no other options.

The admissions informed the family of the expected medical expenses, mainly the ff:

1.) Daily Rate for the ICU is at ₱40,000 to ₱50,000
2.) Daily Medicines at ₱
5,000 to ₱10,000
3.) Procedures to confirm her diagnosis (including hemodialysis when needed) may reach from ₱
90,000 to ₱120,000

She is currently on her 2nd Day in the ICU as of February 03, 2021 and her bill is already at 90,000+

UPDATE as of February 08, 2021: Vivian has been out from the ICU for 4 days already but under Critical Condition due to her developing heart and kidney problems. She's been undergoing blood transfusions and dialysis as of now. Continuous prayers and financial help is needed for the ongoing treatment, procedures and her daily hospital expenses.
