Vitrectomy for Regina

A newly graduate from the University of the Philippines, Cebu City, whose career as an IT software programmer has just taken off.

My niece, Regina Vicentillo, 25 years old, was diagnosed to be suffering from retinal detachment of the eye which was caused by extreme nearsightedness. The lens of her eyeglasses is more or less 700. Upon consultation, her doctor immediately subjected her to an eye operation, called vitrectomy, to prevent permanent loss of her vision. It is a removal of the vitreous humor and tissues tugging on her retina which may later be combined with a scleral buckling procedure. Completion of this treatment will take time since the procedure requires monitoring of its progress and frequent visits to the doctor.

As a result of the pandemic brought by this Covid-19, there were stoppage of work and money has been scarce for ordinary employees, like her parents. The quarantine/lockdown imposed by the government also makes it difficult to seek financial assistance from people close by. The family was able to produce just enough money to begin the immediate surgery required for her eye, but not enough to cover the entire procedures to complete the treatment.
