Campaign Story
Thank you very kindly for coming to this funding page! My friend and neighbor Madam Juliet approached me a couple days ago with a concern. Last year Juliet went with her husband Emmanuel to visit an orphanage for teens in our community called Village of Hope and the experience has continued to make a profound impact on her. She wants to get involved and provide nutritious meals for them and asked if I could help raise the cash to do it!
We went to visit yesterday; this is NOT a typical orphange program. Village of Hope was created 8 years ago to help vulnerable teens escape street life. Most of those enrolled here were between 14-16 years old and sleeping in storefronts or along the roadside, abandoned or orphaned by their parents. What began as a program with just 4 boys has grown to serve 60 with the help of dedicated staff and the support of area churches and international donors. We took a tour of the grounds with the Director Godwin, the creator of Village of Hope in 2005.
Village of Hope is unlike traditional orphanages because it pairs education and training along with a safe and secure home. Children that are enrolled here get quality training in a variety of careers: leather working, sewing, auto mechanics, and traditional cloth weaving. When they graduate the 2 year program, Village of Hope helps them transition back into society with a new set of skills, equipment to get started, and a new optimism about their future.
These kids have had a rough go of it and we've got a chance to do something nice for $10. Make it your good deed for the day. Please and thank you, be the change--
