To all of my family, friends and colleagues,
Greetings of peace to everyone!
This page is dedicated to my beloved mother, Mrs. Victoria Marquez, 56 year old, a grandmother of 6, a mom of 5 boys and a loving wife to our dad. She is also known as Vicky with her family and friends. She was born, raised and living in Navotas City, Philippines. Currently she is battling with Metastatic Stage IV Cancer of the Uterus.
Aug 19, 2020 - I received a call from my family that my mother is experiencing abdominal pain. I went home and check what’s going on and if she’s fine. I saw on her face that she’s really on pain, lying on bed and holding her tummy. At first I thought it’s just a simple constipation and triggered by food intake. Pain was extremely excruciating and I’m started to wonder maybe it’s another thing. She pointed that pain is on her left lower abdomen and I thought maybe it’s a ruptured appendicitis. I sent her to hospital immediately.
Unfortunately, because of the COVID 19 pandemic situation her referring hospital cannot accept her due to positive cases inside the hospital. We transferred her from one hospital to another and finally we found one. However, she cannot be admitted without a nasal swab test with a negative result. I felt her misery on that time coz she needs to stay in a tent outside the hospital and stay overnight in pain until result will arrive.
Aug 20, 2020 - Result came, She’s negative. She was admitted and they started to investigate what’s wrong with her. Series of test and laboratory done but they can’t find what’s wrong. Consultants and specialist had their case study to give her final diagnosis. Some said its a gall stones, other said it’s uterine problem. Which is which...
Aug 21, 2020 - Multiple CT scan and ultrasound done and found masses in uterus and other body parts.
Aug 23, 2020 - OB Doctor decided to do D&C and to get a sample of her masses for biopsy for staging and confirmation.
Aug 25, 2020 - They ruled out that my mom is having cancer of the uterus Stage 4 and metastasize on her lungs, liver and kidney. This day is our devastating day, we’re sad and asking how this happened. She is known to have hypertension and diabetes on medications. She has a regular check up and on time medications. Laboratory test are all up to date and we’re wondering why no one find this earliest. But this is not a battle of blaming and pointing fingers. She’s clueless and we don’t know how we will inform her. But we believed that she has the right to know her condition and to respect her decisions.
Aug 26, 2000 - She is vitally stable, she’s a fighter and she is not giving up. Doctor advised her to go home and wait for final plan if she can have a surgery or she needs to start chemotherapy and radiation ASAP.
One of my fear came, it’s hospital bills payment time. My mom will not be discharged if we cannot settle her bills. Her HMO was already exhausted. Her bill reached to 300,000 Pesos and we’re not even started her management. I don’t know we’re to get this amount. My savings is less, I lost my job since February, no income, 1 of my siblings doesn’t have a job as well because of Covid-19, one has on-and-off work and the only person we’re relying on is my brother who’s working in Abu Dhabi as an OFW. Our family is not rich and what we have now is only prayer and God. Thank God because of some friends and colleagues were able to settle. The question is what’s next.... How we will manage her upcoming treatments.
Aug 27, 2020 - We started to search government hospitals who can accept new patient during this pandemic.
Early September, We found Jose Reyes Medical Center in Manila. They accepted her thru Telemedicine (consultation online).
Sep 7, 2020 - My mom had her initial consultation under JRMMC and advised series of test again in preparation for her surgery.
Sep 12, 2020 - She did CT Scan with contrast. We spent again almost 20,000 Pesos because JRMMC doesn’t have this test. Our only option is to get it outside and it is harder because of the pandemic situation. Our budget getting tighter and tighter and options is less.
Sep 16, 2020 - She did a nasal swab for Covid Test worth 12,000 Pesos again for her admission and surgery.
Sep 18, 2020 - Swab test result came negative. We coordinated with her Oncologist to prepare her admission.
Sep 25, 2020 - Unluckily, situation is not favoring us and turns out that one of the patient on their cancer institute got positive and shut down their department. No new incoming patient will be accepted and all existing patients will undergo quarantine.
At this point of time no management and intervention was done. Cancer is aggressively taking her. No other government hospitals is accepting. Our only way is to go back in Chinese General Hospital to proceed and atleast to have her initial chemotherapy.
Oct 8, 2020 - First chemotherapy done. We have no choice and paid the amount of 60,000 Pesos for this chemotherapy session. We felt an achievement but in reality we just started. My mom is not losing her hope and trying her best even pain is killing her.
Our resources are all drained, all of our savings was consumed, and we don’t know how we will manage her upcoming sessions. Currently we almost spent 450,000 Pesos from hospital bills, tests, medicines, supplies and other necessities.
In God’s grace we’re humbly asking for help of all generous and understanding people to help my mom to win this battle. Any amount will do and we will be forever grateful for your kindness and generosity.
All proceeds can be deposited to my brother’s bank account and Gcash as well...
