Campaign Story
My name is Vassiliki , or Vicky in short. About a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer-autoimmune disease in the blood.
It
all started with a pain on my ribs, but as a former ballet teacher,
pain was familiar to me. At first I didn't give it much thought, for
about a year it would come and go but then one day, the pain became
so excruciating, that I couldn't breathe or move. So I decided to do
an X-ray convinced that something was broken. The results revealed
osteolysis. One of my ribs had "dissolved" and a marathon
of medical examinations started. I was fortunate enough to meet
good doctors and about a month later I had my diagnosis.
Cancer
I can't describe how it felt: in an instant my life was over, the way I knew myself was over, I went from being super active into being sick....I was so afraid, I was shaking from fear all the time and then.. I took a leap of faith...
I left my unhappy marriage and started anew. I didn't quite understand the battle ahead. The thing is I am all for alternative medicine and totally against chemotherapy and conventional treatment. So I changed my diet to organic food only, no meat or dairy, I did acupuncture and group therapy, took Chinese herbs, vitamins and supplements. Most of my friends turned their backs on me because of this choice and I had no immediate family. Unfortunately none of those treatments is covered by my health insurance (both state or private). I am in a jam. I did a lot of research of my own and I am convinced this is the right path for me but the bills are accumulating and I struggle every day.
If you do wish to help, even the smallest acts are greatly appreciated from just sharing my story, to the smallest donation. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story. Love and blessings to you all!.
- QnA
Q: What is multiple Myeloma?
A:
Multiple myeloma is a
cancer of
the plasma cells in the bone marrow. The cause of multiple myeloma is
not known. Risk factors for multiple myeloma have not been
established although researchers have suggested genetic
abnormalities, such as c-Myc genes or environmental exposures, may
play a role. Symptoms and signs of multiple myeloma include:.
anemia, bone
tenderness, bone
pain, weakness, bone fractures ,kidney
damage,
hypercalcemia, nerve
damage, skin lesions, enlarged tongue,
and infections. Multiple myeloma is diagnosed with a
bone
marrow aspiration
and/or
biopsy. Other tests include blood monoclonal immunoglobulin and
radiology tests to determine the extent of bone lesions.(source: wikipedia)
Q: What will the money raised cover?
A: Any money raised will cover all kinds of medical expenses, from tests to supplements! Additionally, if, and only, IF neccesary, small fraction of it will cover any unpaid bills.
