Campaign Story
VERLORENVLEI FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS / LIGGIES FEES
The annual and popular, Verlorenvlei Festival of Lights or Liggies fees, will take place starting 1st to 6th October 2018.
During the festival various workshops are provided for the children namely; storytelling, drama, lantern making, singing and drama workshops, with the aim of introducing new skills to a community of kids hungry for entertainment and inspiration. All this are, aimed at stimulating the children of the Verlorenvlei Area, surrounding farms and Redelinghuys community during their holidays.
The week-long festival culminates, with a parade by the children of the community through the streets of Redelinghuys with candle lit lanterns. The parade returns to the starting point at the local sports ground where, the kids participate in a drama taught to them during the week. This has now become a highlight for the community and is the most anticipated event of the year for the town of Redelinghuys.
Our purpose is to ensure that, every child participating in the festival and workshops finds strength in their own abilities, apply their imagination and use the knowledge they gain over the festival period to assist in their future endeavors. This project we regard as our attempt to fight the ever rising problem of drug and alcohol abuse amongst the kids of Redelinghuys and surrounding areas.
The community pleads with us to offer more similar workshops but, we are unable to do this due to financial constraints. The Festival is supported entirely by charitable donations and does not receive any funding from the South Africa government, this year, to date we have not receive the donations or funding we were hoping.
These workshops will be very beneficial for the community and cannot be successful without assistance from you and other institutions. Here, the children can let their creative juices flow freely and run wild and learn to become productive individuals in their own communities.
This year, our aim is to provide each of the participants throughout the week with, a wholesome lunch.
Yours sincerely
