Vehicle for Veteran

My sister Jo is a veteran living in rural South Carolina who is in desperate need of a new vehicle. Earlier this week, her son was driving the family car home from work when he swerved to avoid a dog in the road and crashed into a tree. My nephew was informed at the hospital that he would be cited for the accident. The police officer advised him that he should have "just hit the dog" (fortunately, the dog was unharmed and returned to his owner). In addition to the medical bills and the fine resulting from the accident, the family is now without transportation, as their only vehicle was totaled. Living in a remote area, they have no way to travel to the grocery store, the doctor's office, and, most importantly, to work without a car. The younger child in the family is Autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) and has regular IEP meetings at his school which his mother needs to attend. Jo has been waiting months for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to process her application for benefits, but there is no indication that this will happen in the near future. My family is contributing what we can, but we would be so grateful for any help you could provide to give this vet and her kids their Christmas miracle!
