We are busy sett surveying and preparing for the likely badger cull in the Mendips area around September time. We are also preparing for the vile Cubbing 'Autumn Hunting' season which will begin at the end of August. We desperately need to fundraise for a group vehicle to make our group more effective and allow us to take more people out in the field.

Please consider a small donation and if you can't donate, please share our fundraiser.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us so far.

Mendip Hunt Watch was created in late 2018 as a sister group to Locals Against The Mendip Farmers Hunt. Comprised of individuals sick of seeing local hunts ride roughshod over wildlife, we decided that the best way to stop the killing was through direct action in the field.

Since our inception, our sabs and monitors have been a persistent presence at the MFH's meets. We have kept a watchful eye over their illicit activities and witnessed and intervened in blatant illegal hunting. At no point did they even pretend to us that they were laying false trails.

We have found numerous illegally blocked badger setts, which are filled in to prevent foxes from "going to ground" to escape the hounds. Despite this being illegal anyway under the Protection of Badgers Act, there is absolutely no need to fill in a badger sett to extend the chase if you are following trails. Freshly blocked badger setts in the immediate vicinity of a hunt is clear evidence of illegal hunting of live quarry.

Throughout the season, there were almost always quadbikes with terrier boxes at the meets. Terriers are used to flush out foxes who have gone to ground, or keep them in place during dig-outs. Quads were frequently ridden illegally on public roads, overloaded or without number plates.

We have experienced plenty of intimidation and aggression from the hunt and their supporters. This will not stop us, in fact it just shows that we are getting to them and having an impact.

We would like to thank all the local people who have provided us and Locals Against with information about the hunt and their meets. The support has been immense and has shown us just how loathed the MFH are.
We also thank Bristol Hunt Saboteurs and Bath Hunt Saboteurs for their support and for joining us in the field on several occasions.

At the end of the season, we took a trip to Salisbury Plain to join sabs from across the South West for a meet of the Royal Artillery Hunt. It was a pleasure to work with all groups involved and gain more experience working with them.

With the fox hunting season over for now, our focus now shifts to the looming badger cull. Please contact Somerset Against The Badger Cull if you would like to get involved in work against the cull.

Thank you for all your support this season. We will be back in the field when fox hunting resumes in the autumn with the barbaric practice of cub hunting.
