Vedalia Reeves of Lansing was recently selected to participate in the 2014 Miss Jr. Teen Syracuse/Binghamton pageant competition that will take place on Saturday October 12, 2013. Vedalia learned of her acceptance into this year's competition when the pageant announced their selections following interviewing in the local Syracuse/Binghamton area.

Here is her personal statement:

“Ever since the age of four, I have been dancing. It started with just ballet, but my love for the sport grew and grew over the years. I now take eight different classes, and, yes, I still do ballet. I also started cheerleading when I was eight and our team won many competitions over the years.

This year, I’ve dedicated most of my time to other things, so I’ve stopped cheerleading. But, cheerleading will always be a part of me and it’s close to my heart. I’ve decided to branch out and participate in other activities, such as volleyball, track, and this pageant. I’ve always wanted to try pageants, but until now, I’ve never put my everything into one. This is my first pageant, and so far, it’s been nerve-wracking, but exciting at the same time.

Since before I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a model. Now that I’m older, I have figured out that I want to be in high fashion. Commercial shoots sound great, as well.

In my opinion, I like knowing what I want to do with my life so young because it gives me a head start. That’s why this pageant is perfect for me because I’m also entering the photogenic contest. Huge modeling agencies, which I could only dream of being signed by, like Ford Management, are looking at us. Being noticed by these agencies is a goal of mine and, the amazing thing is, this pageant gives me that opportunity. “

Vedalia will be competing, for her share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. Vedalia will be competing in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of four divisions that will have young ladies ages of 7 and 19 competing in modeling routines, which include casual wear and formal wear. Most important, Vedalia will display her personality and interviewing skills while interviewing with this year's Syracuse/Binghamton judging panel. Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition. If Vedalia were to win the title of Miss Jr. Teen Syracuse/Binghamton, she would represent Syracuse/Binghamton and the surrounding communities at the National Competition that will take place in Orlando, Florida. Over $30,000.00 in prizes and awards will be presented at the National Competition while each winner enjoys this expense paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando, Florida. Community businesses, organizations, and private individuals will assist Vedalia in participating in this year's competition by becoming an official sponsor to her.

Through sponsorship, each contestant receives all the necessary training, entrance fees and rehearsals, which will allow Vedalia to become a very confident and well-prepared contestant in this year's Syracuse/Binghamton Pageant. Any amount above the allotted amount of $620, goes towards pageant attire, stylists and photography.

If you are business and would like your name mentioned in the two press releases, the Ithaca Journal and Cortland Standard, you must complete your donation by September 28, 2013.
