Back in 2014 we visited Mumbai and were deeply moved by the plight of the street kids we saw living rough and begging just to survive. We asked our hotel if there were any charities helping these children and they put us in touch with the Vatsalya Foundation who encouraged kids to come off the streets. They offer these vulnerable youngsters shelter, food and clothing as well as giving them schooling and some vocational training in order that they can get themselves out of poverty. We were so impressed with what they were achieving that we wanted to help the charity raise some much needed funds. On returning to England and throughout 2014-15 Satia and Freya organised a variety of events at school whilst we organised an online fundraising appeal which in total raised a fantastic £2508! This was used to purchase essential equipment like uniforms, books, stationary, as well as day to day supplies like food.

We have kept in regular contact with the charity and Mrs Mukherjee, the Principal from the organisation, to see how we can best help. She also visited us in July 2015 whilst on a trip to the UK to help us raise awareness of the charity and was interviewed by Sat Rana on Radio Derby. Mrs Mukherjee also met with Mrs Hannaford, Primary Head at Derby High, to thank her for her support with Satia and Freya's fundraising at school and to form links between the two organisations.

This Easter we will be visiting again and as well as volunteering at the projects in Bandra and Worli, we would like to take 60 boys and girls to Kidzania, an indoor adventure theme park where children role play as adults for the day. They can try out different jobs like mechanic, dentist, beautician, paramedic whilst earning Kidzania money to spend on things within the theme park. An amazing opportunity that would not normally be accessible to these children and an experience that will give them inspiration and aspiration to remain positive, work hard and excel in life.

Help us to raise £1200 to cover the cost of taking the children on this trip and give them a day they will remember for years to come and one that inspires them with what possibilities the future could hold. £20 will cover the cost of transport, entry, food and refreshments for one child. Every penny you donate will go to the foundation as all administration costs are covered by ourselves. Please donate whatever you are happy with, every little helps! 😀
