Campaign Story
I have been selected to join a team of volunteers going to Vanuatu, a group of 85 small islands in the Pacific Ocean, to work on a project in the village of Ranwas on Pentecost Island. The 4 week project is to design and build a library and additional classroom space for their school, which was destroyed during the 2015 Tropical Cyclone Pam. Education is a basic human right, as set out in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; as quality education is the 4th Sustainable Development Goal, providing remote and underdeveloped communities with education facilities should be a priority in our efforts to improve lives globally. Education of young girls is something close to my heart, and creating a safe space for their development opens up so many possibilities for them in future life which would otherwise be totally inaccessible. With the help of funding, this project could transform the lives of the children in Ranwas village, and generations to come, and will hopefully be a factor in driving positive change in the area which will have lasting effects.
