Vanna’s medical transition

Hello,

I am a 22 year old transgender woman who is currently studying economics and business in Slovenia.

Being a transgender person coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina is not easy, as we are ignored by the system. There are no endocrinologists who can prescribe you hormone replacement therapy, as they have no experience or knowledge with transgender people. The medication that is taken for whole life is not covered by national healthcare insurance, unlike in other European countries. And not to mention that no gender confirming surgeries are covered. But there is a catch. Legal gender cannot be changed unless transgender people go through gender confirming surgery, which ironically is not covered by national healthcare insurance, and the surgery cannot be performed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Not only I am battling with physical gender dysphoria, but with legal gender dysphoria as well, as my identity cannot be recognised, until I complete gender confirming surgery.

The costs are high, as there needs to be preparation for surgery, which consists of laser hair removal, the surgery itself and the stay in hospital after the procedure is done. Of course the student cannot pay for these costs all by themselves, therefore I have decided to seek help from kind people worldwide, who come across this fundraiser and decide to help and give support.

I have contacted the clinic in Belgrade, Serbia and I got approximate costs of the procedure itself, with many factors impacting the total price. Total cost of procedure itself will be known when I reach half of the goal stated in this fundraiser (7.500 €), after I make contacts and consultations

Each session of laser hair removal costs around 150 €, and 5 to 8 sessions are needed to permanently remove the hair in the area, making the approximate costs from 750 € to 1200 €.

In case there are changes about national insurance policies about trans care and if the surgeries would be covered 100%, I will use the funds raised for a facial surgery to “fix” my dysphoric jaw and donate to other people in need.

ja sam dvadesetdvogodišnja transrodna žena i studiram ekonomiju i biznis u Sloveniji. Biti transrodna osoba iz Bosne i Hercegovine nije lako, jer nas sistem ignoriše. Trenutno ne postoji medicinsko osoblje koje je stručno i obučeno za rad sa transrodnim osobama, i mnogi se odluče otići u susjedne države kako bi mogli započeti hormonsku terapiju. Lijekovi koji se uzimaju kroz cijeli život nisu pokriveni zdravstvenim osiguranjem, u poređenju sa drugim državama u Europi. A naročito kirurške intervencije. Ali to nije sve. Pravna promjena spola nije moguća sve dok osoba ne obavi operacije, osiguranje ne pokriva niti jedan dio, a ironično je da se takve operacije ne mogu obaviti u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Ne samo da se borim sa fizičkom rodnom disforijom, već i sa pravnom, jer moj identitet ne može biti priznat, sve dok ne obavim donju operaciju.

Troškovi su veoma visoki. Pripremna faza se sastoji od laserskog uklanjanja dlaka na području, zatim same operacije i post-operativna faza. Naravno, kao studentica ne mogu priuštiti sve ove trošokve sama, i zato sam se odlučila napraviti ovaj fundraiser i potražiti pomoć od dobrih ljudi širom svijeta, koji bi naišli na ovaj fundraiser i pružili pomoć.

Kontaktirala sam kliniku u Beogradu, te sam dobila približne troškove operacije, koji variraju i mnogo stvari utiče na konačnu cijenu. Konačna cijena operacije će biti poznata i objavljena kada se skupi polovica zadanog cilja (7.500 €), nakon čega krećem u ozbiljniji kontakt i konsultacije.

Također, cijena jednog tretmana laserskog uklanjanja dlaka iznosi oko 150 €, i potrebno je uraditi od 5 do 8 tretmana kako bi se dlake trajno uklonile. Iznos za tu svrhu bi iznosio od 750 € do 1.250 €.
