Like any other recent college graduate in Venezuela we are facing the worst political, economical and social crisis this oil-rich country has ever had. Venezuela could easily be described like Gotham City, the judicial system is broken, there is no such thing as law&order and worst of all there are no basic home supplies, food or medication.
As a preschool teacher I am lucky to work at an environment in which I can escape from reality and enjoy the little things. A place where children are eager to discover the world and all about it. Although it is bittersweet, preparing little people for a society that does not exist, where laws are not obeyed and values are not taken into action. A society that leans on violence and the people with greatest power are criminals full of hate and lies that unfortunately run their country.
Currently my mother (also a teacher) and I live in what used to be my happy home. A place where my brother, sister and father used to be. Throughout the years the criminal activity in the country became an issue. Until one day both my brother and father were gun-pointed in my house in order to steal our cars. My father, brother and sister managed to find job opportunities out of the country, places that provided a taste of freedom. As the youngest I was not done with college yet, so my mom and I decided to stay and wait. Last May 11th 2015 two men violently enter my house through the ac vent and managed to steal my computer, my mom's ipad and many items more. As teachers we use these devices on a regular basis that with hard hork we paid off. Items like these are replaceable, we are thankful that nothing happened to us that day. Yet frustrated that due to the lack of values and work ethics in the country some managed to seek the "easy way" through life, by stealing knowing there are no consequences.
As a teacher one must me pacient and positive, I have been currently accepted in a postgraduate program on psycho educational intervention of disorders that I am excited to begin. There are lots of materials that I must study and with your help I could buy again the items I once lost. I would truly be thankfull for the help and your time for reading my story.
