Our friend needs your help for kidney transplantation

Our friend and colleague Dr. Vishwanadh (or Vissu, as we dearly call him) is 32 years old and is currently a postdoctoral scholar at NTU. He was diagnosed with Berger’s disease (IgA Nephropathy), a genetic kidney disorder, in 2016, while he was pursuing his PhD at NTU. Tests taken at that time showed that Vissu’s kidneys were less than 20% functional (and over 80% sclerotic). Now, in 2018, his kidneys are only about 11% functional. Apart from the several doses of medicines and an extremely restrictive diet to prevent a sudden drastic failure of his kidneys, there is no cure for his illness. The only alternative available for our friend to lead a better life is to undergo kidney transplantation.

We, including Vissu, are scientists working on our dream to build a better tomorrow for our world. Vissu has taught us that hope needn’t be lost however turbulent life may get and that a smile can be carried however heavy the current situation may be. His dedication and discipline to complete his PhD and work on his postdoctoral research while battling personal hardships has inspired all of us.

Fortunately, Vissu has found a kidney donor. All we aim now to do for Vissu is to help raise money as soon as possible so that our friend gets his chance for a better tomorrow that he so very much deserves. Vissu has borne all the medical costs so far himself- out of his savings. This has cost him INR 6 Lakhs (USD 8,500/ SGD 12,000) – and has covered the numerous tests required to establish organ compatibility. Further procedures, including the actual transplantation and a mandatory observation period in a sterile environment, are expected to cost INR 15 Lakhs (USD 21,500/ SGD 29,500).

We would appreciate any amount that would help ease the financial burden on our friend’s young shoulders. Your generosity will help a deserving friend who has fought adversity with grace and a young man who not only deserves a happy tomorrow but has also worked all his life to make it happen.
