HELP PALESTINIAN DOCTOR KHALED OWEIDAT COMPLETE HIS MASTERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH MEDICINE AT NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY

My name is Khaled Oweidat from Palestine. I qualified as a medical doctor at Al-Quds University in 2019 where I was involved in teaching and researching the genetics of diabetes. In the past 10 years in Palestine there has been a significant rise in the death rate from diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, stroke, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Public health expertise is needed to promote healthy lifestyles and to help establish procedures, protocols and mechanisms for early detection and intervention. I am a physician who because of my experience wants to train as a Public Health professional. Public Health medicine involves working at the population level and supports healthy living, helps prevent chronic diseases, and brings the most significant health benefits to the greatest number of people.

I am now half way through a Masters in Public Health at Nottingham Trent University. I spent 2 years from 2019 to 2021 saving as much as I could from my earnings and managed to raise the £7000 fees myself. I was fortunate to get an academic scholarship which reduced the fees by 50%. I have two sponsors in the UK who are supporting me financially and I am receiving regular donations from Palestine supporters I have met since arriving in the UK. The money I have raised so far through the GoGetFunding account has helped enormously with my living costs. The course will finish at the end of August 2022 and I need to raise a further £2000 to pay the final installment of my accommodation costs.

I plan to use the skills, knowledge, and experiences I gain while earning a Master’s in Public Health to help solve the issues I saw as a doctor and affect change in the Palestinian health system. Completing my Maters in Public Health will improve my skills as a Doctor and allow me to offer greater knowledge and skills to fellow Palestinians. Please support me financially if you can.
