Urgent Donors needed to help Finn get his Autism Assistance Dog

My son Finley is 9 years old & was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism when he was 4. Finley is a fun loving happy little boy who love minecraft, lego & grossery gang. Finley has several co-morbid conditions and complex needs including PDA (Pathalogical Demand Avoidance) SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), Social Communication Difficulties as well as medical conditions including being incontinent and a condition called Tippy Toe Syndrome which is where his tendons are too tight and he has to have his feet casted flat every 6 months until the age of 21

In addition to the conditions that have been diagnosed Finley is awaiting genetic testing for Fragile X Syndrome and further investigations into his bowel disorder at The Royal Alexander Children’s Hospital in Brighton.

This myriad of conditions means that Finley has daily challenges, causing him anxiety and meaning that he is left feeling isolated. Finley loves dogs and reacts very well to them as unlike people they do not require verbal communication.

Finley has been accepted to join the waiting list for a Supporting Paws Autism Assistance Dog. Finley needs this vital Assistance as his complex needs and high anxieties can partly be managed with having a lifelong companion that will be trained to understand and meet his need and be his second life line.

The dog will be trained from 8 weeks of age to meet Finley’s needs and Finley has already decided on a name for his dog, Rex. If we are able to raise enough funds to purchase an assistance dog for Finley, his experience of the world and our lives as a family would change dramatically. By having a constant companion that can provide the reassurance he so desperately needs to reduce his anxiety and thrive in the community, we really feel that everyone would benefit from everything our wonderful little boy has to offer.
