Please help us fix up Cape Maclear Community Day Secondary School!

(Contact [email protected] for more information/to support directly)

During a recent volunteer construction & painting initiative for the school, it was discovered that the one classroom blocks has been poorly constructed & needs reenforcement, before finishing off the windows, doors & painting the room. We'd like to get contractors in to finish the classroom before school starts up again at the end of September, so pupils have a safe classroom to return to.

This is a heavily under-resourced school & the classrooms only have 2 desks. We're prioritizing completing the actual building, but will then be working toward helping resource the school to create a more inviting and stimulating learning environment, based on what is needed most.

We have 90 000 Malawian Kwacha (ZAR1650) - we need at least another ZAR5000 to complete this initial phase! We'll be updating everyone as we go. Our Project Manager is assessing the location, the materials needed & pricing. We will be in charge of all purchasing.

Funds will go toward purchasing poles/reinforcement materials for the block; bricks to fix the walls; cement window blocks (need about 70 to complete the windows - ZAR770); transportation of window blocks as these are not found in Cape Maclear (ZAR700), as much Paint & Cement as we can get; door frames, doors & locks (ZAR700 x2); professional labour - builders & carpenter (staff from The Funky Cichlid & some community members will helping for free).

We hope to get the 2nd classroom looking more like the first (which also still needs a lot of work):

Thank you for taking the time to read this if you've gotten this far! We're excited to get our hands dirty & hope you're able to help us.

From the Management Team at The Funky Cichlid Backpacker/Lodge in Cape Maclear (Jen, Duncan, Waliko & Prince) & our Project Manager, Dyson --> no amount is too small, we'll make it make a difference. ZIKOMO KWAMBIRI (THANK YOU VERY MUCH).
