My name is Jemely De los Santos, female, 29yrs old, and a bank staff. I just got married to the love of my life last August 2015 and enjoying our journey as husband and wife.
Everything was normal until last April 15, 2016. While at work, I suddenly felt a shooting pain starting from the left frontal part of my head. I can feel the veins near my left eye pumping and every heart beat is adding to extreme pain. My left eye have also blacked out for a while and it felt like I’m going to lose my consciousness. I tried to relax myself just to get it through the day. After finishing my daily transactions, I head home to take some rest but the pain did not go away. Later that night, the troubling pain woke me up. I vomited three to four times and experienced severe dizziness. I almost lost consciousness when I rushed myself to the hospital.
I thought the incident was just a severe migraine causing vertigo but after a few days, I’m experiencing the same pain again. I went for a follow up check-up the next weekend. Two weeks later, from an MRI head scan requested by a doctor, they found a 1.5cm in diameter Arterio-Venous Malformation (AVM) in my brain’s left temporal lobe.
An Arterio-Venous Malformation or AVM is a tangle of abnormal and poorly formed blood vessels (arteries and veins). They have a higher rate of bleeding than normal vessels. Bleeding may injure the surrounding brain tissues that may result in to a stroke, a coma, some possible permanent disability (eg. blindness, impaired motor skills) or even sudden death.
According to the doctors, since I’m having symptomatic AVM, the risk of bleeding over my lifetime is higher than normal. And the risk may even double if I get pregnant, which could derail my husband and I’s dream of raising our own family. They recommended undergoing Cerebral Catheter Angiogram and Stereotactic Radio Surgery as soon as possible. However, my family doesn’t have enough to cover the cost of the two procedures. Both medical procedures would roughly amount to Php600,000.
I would like to take this opportunity to knock on your heart for any help you could offer me. Help me to fulfill my dream of being a mother to my own child and have a family of my own with my husband. I hope that people with kind heart could assist me and my family in raising the required amount for my treatment. Your kind generosity will be greatly appreciated. And may the Lord bless you and your family abundantly for your help on this cause.
