Please partner with me to start-up a Sustainable Urban Development Company in Lagos, Nigeria.
I have about seven years working experience in real estate management and development in Nigeria before awarded Dutch government scholarship to study masters in Urban Management and Development, with major specialization in Managing and Financing Urban Infrastructure and minor in Urban Environment Management in Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was during the course it dawn on me that I had been part of the professionals contributing negatively to the environment and destroying the eco system rather than protecting it during the process of real estate development.
I was privileged to visit several sustainable urban and eco-restoration development projects in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, and researched on the concept used in other projects done in South Africa, United States, and South Korea. All these experiences make me well convinced that the project can be done successfully in Nigeria.
As at today, urban development in Nigeria involves displacing the environment and ecosystem to cater for urban expansion and growth, and there is no organisation known to me working in the field of urban sustainability and greenery despite its enormous benefit in mitigating climate change and reduce the co2 in the atmosphere. So I believe the time to act is now!
The company to be named “Eco-City International Limited” will bring together multi-disciplinary practice and experts that will focus on designing and developing sustainable buildings and neighbourhoods whereby people will leave in harmony with the environment; workshop, training, and seminars on sustainable development together with international partners in the Netherlands; raising awareness on the sustainable practises; consultancy services to government and private sector on sustainable development analysis and evaluation, environmental policy and strategy development, waste and recycling, sustainable transport, energy savings, and co2 reduction.
I returned to Nigeria immediately after my program to fulfil this cause rather than staying back in Europe, but start-up financing has been an impediment to the realisation of this passion of mine. I hope to get the fund and launch the company by April 2015.
Together we can make the world a better place where people develop and live in harmony with the environment rather than displacing it in order for the future generations to be able to meet their needs.
