Urban Compost Project in Bali

Urban Compost is the composting service for local and expat community who live in Canggu and surrounding Village. The service includes providing collecting bucket (for food waste) and bag (for landscape trimmings), weekly pickup, composting, and give the finished compost back to the subscribers. Urban Compost has been launched since June 2019 and now having 135 families as the urban compost members and more than 50.000 Liters of food waste have been diverted out of landfill. This project is not only generating economic value, but also enhancing the environment by making a soil and giving positive social impact thru the members and local farmers.

Urban Compost Project team consist of 5 local people namely Buya (me) as Project Manager, Saras as Social Media Person, Bagia as Head Compost Crafter, Angga as Head Pickup Person and Wayan as the landlord and head farmers. The composting facility is located at Canggu Village, in the land of local farmers who grow some kind of flowers. The composting process takes place in the middle of those flowers bed, without automatic machine and with labor intensive. Even so, we still have been able to produce close to 1 ton of compost (and some more couple piles of compost are waiting to be harvested) which have been given back to the members, up to April 2020.

In order to improve our operation, I have started this campaign to raise some fund. This campaign aims to raise some fund especially to purchase adequate composting equipment such as branch-chipper machine (40 mill IDR). Hopefully, our operational will be more efficient, reliable and productive than before.
