The VentureWell OPEN conference gathers together representatives from across the innovation and entrepreneurship spectrum to share stories, start new collaborations, and learn emerging best practices in the rapidly evolving field of technology entrepreneurship education.

Two UPRM student leaders will be presenting their model to create industry-based communities with the purpose of commercializing innovative products. They'll be attending to the OPEN Conference at Washington, D.C. during March 28-30,2019.


Presenter: Felipe Alfonzo

Felipe is a Marketing Undergrad with a passion for helping innovations come to market. His has been able to put his marketing knowledge to use in very different work experiences from developing commercialization programs to web development. Further interest include macroeconomics, small business development,and entrepreneurship.

He was selected by Stanford University to become a University Innovation Fellow, a program thet empowers students from all over the world to become agents of change in higher education. Curretly he is president of Idea Platform , the biggest I&E student association in UPR.

Co-presenter: Jahannie Torres-Rodríguez

Jahannie is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering with a focus on Software, a minor in Business Development and a certification in Virtual Education at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus.

Jahannie was selected by Stanford University to become an University Innovation Fellow. This platform, along with the UPRM E-ship Network gave Jahannie the tools and motivation to co-found the first makerspace at UPRM, the Tech Blast Conference, a program for student entrepreneurs and the Solidarity Scholarship for disadvantaged communities.




Expenses breakdown:

  • Donations will be used to pay for the hotel and transportation in Washington, D.C..
