Unthreading: a child protection film

We are RHAN Production, a small independent film team in Uganda, working on our very first film, UNTHREADING, a compelling short film set in the 21 ^st Century rural Uganda, which advocates for child protection from violence, fear and exploitation. The story is weaved around ARAO, a courageous orphaned village girl who defies several abusive attempts by an older family member to sexual assault her amidst strong cultural norms, with the support of her grandmother. ARAO is the ultimate symbol of moral strength in extreme difficulty. The estimated runtime is 25 minutes.

As a team, we want to increase awareness on children's right through African cinema. Through this project, we will show social system, cultural practices and their relations to power. We will torch at a couple of active cultural practices in some rural parts of Africa. At the same time, we will reveal how in some communities, underage girls are still being traded for selfish and economic aims by their parents and caretakers, in this 21 ^st Century. Through film, we hope to promote freedom of expression against unfair man-made practices and encourage youths to speak up in the face cultural oppression.

Our budget estimation will cover the entire production process. Besides having a happy cast and crew, we want to use quality equipment for a beautiful film, worth your viewing and competitive film festivals.
