My name is Nobantu and I am from Soweto, a township in South Africa. I am studying in a fairly new field of Drama Therapy in South Africa through the University of Witwatersrand.
My passion lies in connecting with people, sharing stories, education for self-development and seeing healing taking place. I am naturally a writer of poetry, plays and short stories and have found a way to integrate my passion of the art with a practice that would be impactful to my community in the township, especially the queer community which is my primary target group. I have been active in social enterprises that foster black queer communities by creating safe social spaces. My research focus is on sexual traumas experienced by the community particularly as a queer womxn myself. The traditional talk therapy tends to marginalise queer womxn because of the language and social bias, which is what has led me to seek alternative solutions or approaches through Drama Therapy that are more inclusive and effective for victims of "corrective rape" and other violent sexual traumas. As a Drama Therapist, I hope to utilise my skills to open dialogue on these difficult subject matters and contribute towards healing my community.
And to make this work possible, I need your help! Your contribution is going to help me cover the tuition, books, food and residence stay on campus. The fees need to be paid fully as soon as possible because interest accrues every month.
Thank you very much for taking time to read my story and for your generosity. I value your contribution as it goes beyond the amount, rather you have given me a currency that is invaluable, a seed that will grow, flourish and produce more seeds for others, for generations to come.
