Campaign Story
Gyms
on Fort Hood are not conducive to group specialized training needs, especially
during established hours of physical training across the installation. Due to
this, and of course maintain accountability of our Soldiers, I had started a
fitness program in our footprint over a year ago with our Soldiers who desired
to prepare for special schools and assignments requiring a higher degree of
fitness and helped those that were at risk of being chaptered out due to weight
or failing the Army Physical fitness test (APFT). It was all volunteer
participation and we have had great success with the program utilizing
pre-developed proven programs with success. Multiple Soldiers had within 30
days overcome challenges with their APFT or weight pertaining to body fat percentages.
Others had went on to special assignments and provided feedback that they could
not have imagined doing what they did without our preparation to set them up
for success. Others are simply impressed by the flexibility and movements they
accomplish over time when they know going into it they were unable to achieve
the movements.
However, over $16,000 of Property book (mostly non-serial numbered items)
equipment belonging to the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade and personal equipment
brought in by me to supplement what we needed was removed without authorization
from the building housing our make shift gym between 0745 06MAR17 and 0600
07MAR17.
Because it is primarily fitness equipment and some donated by myself, unit
funds will not be used to replace the items listed below. Unfortunately the
true cost is the impact to the Soldiers and members of Headquarters Company
that looked forward to the training and benefit of having our own space,
equipment, and program to improve and prepare.
Known items removed consist of the following that we want to replace as soon as
possible to get the program back on track:
- HDT PA System with pelican case - Anchor Audio Beacon Line Array Sound System
- Industrial upright fan, black (two person lift)
- Media Projector
