My name’s Sam Ponty and I’m a year 12 student at Framlingham College. This Summer I am taking part in the College’s Expedition called Under African Skies. We are visiting South Africa, Botswana and Zambia where we are undertaking community and conservation projects. Each pupil has to raise as much money as they can towards the cost of their trip.
I have decided to raise money by running The Bath Half Marathon in March. I am well into my training, which has meant getting up early on Sunday mornings and going for long training runs in the Suffolk countryside. I am also donating some of the money I raise to The Lunchbox Fund. This is a South African Charity which serves 25,000 nutritious meals to the poorest school children in South Africa each day. As children who do not have enough to eat cannot concentrate and therefore do not learn all that they can. And education is a child’s best way out of poverty.
